How did the Octoberfest come about and what are the historical backgrounds?
Here you will learn everything about the genesis and the actual background of the Octoberfest.
The Octoberfest was the first on 17.10.1810 as a day of rejoicing and started with a horse race. The occasion was the wedding of King Ludwig I and Princess Therese of Saxony-Hildburghausen in a meadow.
Later, the festival developed more and more with the Bavarian agricultural show and specialty shops as well as the beer garden.
Around 1850 this event was called Octoberfest and held on meadows.
More and more, this festival developed into the commercial drinking and eating event, which spread throughout Germany in October.
Many foreigners in the different corners of the wold took over the tradition and since then the Octoberfest is the senationelle beer party in Germany number one.
Today's "modern" grasslands visit over 6 million guests from all over the world each year.
